Today I am joined by Kal Vepuri, Founder and CEO of Hero, an IoT-enabled medication management service. The creation of Hero was inspired by Kal’s mother, who suffered two hospital readmissions after struggling to take her medication as prescribed following quadruple bypass surgery.
That’s when Kal built the first Hero prototype to help her — and the millions of others who struggle with medication adherence — to stay on track and live life independently to their full potential.
Before launching Hero, Kal was an entrepreneur and prolific angel investor, backing more than 175 companies, including Quip, Mirror, Harry’s, Warby Parker, Allbirds, ClassPass, Quartet Health, Oscar, Clover Health, among others.
Kal earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Economics at Duke University with high distinction and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in economics. He went on to complete stints at Bain & Company and as an institutional private equity investor before returning to entrepreneurship.
Kal currently sits on the Board of Directors of Hero, Quip and Loveseat and serves as an advisor to Dataminr, Sweetgreen, Bolt and Lumere (formerly known as Procured Health).
