Interview with Dr. Eamonn Keogh, Co-Founder of FarmSense

Today I am joined by Dr. Eamonn Keogh, Co-Founder of FarmSense and a full professor of computer science at the University of California, Riverside.

FarmSense helps farmers simplify insect monitoring and management with the help of artificial intelligence. FlightSensor uses a patented algorithm to detect and classify insects, providing real-time counts from the field. Farmers can use this information to determine if they are dealing with beneficial or invasive species, and take strategic action before lasting damage is done to crops. The result: better crop yield, lower pesticide use, reduced environmental damage, and less risk of insect resistance.

Dr. Keogh is a renowned expert in data mining, machine learning, and information retrieval. He specializes in techniques for solving similarity and indexing problems in time-series datasets, and is pioneering the field of computational entomology.

He is one of the only three people in the world to have at least 20 papers in each of the top data mining conferences (SIGKDD, ICDM, SDM). He has also published dozens of papers in entomological and biological venues. Dr. Keogh is listed by Microsoft Academic Search one of the top 10 data mining & machine learning researchers.

Dr. Shailendrah Singh is Co-Founder & CEO of FarmSense. He is an expert in system design and building. He completed his Ph.D. at University of California Riverside, where his research focused on Cellular & Wireless networks, Embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Power management and mobile computing. At UCR, he led the development of several new systems for wireless and cellular networks, security and mobile web. His work has resulted in more than 20 research papers in top computer science conferences.
