So what happens to all the plastic after the holidays? Only 14% of all plastic packaging is recycled and vast quantities escape into the environment. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, if the current trend continues, by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean, almost 1 billion tons of plastic.
So which countries are the best recyclers? Germany, Austria, followed by South Korea and Wales. They recycle between 52% and 56%.
