“Being authentic is being vulnerable. Being vulnerable is the bravest thing anyone can do.”

Jenny Dorsey, Chef, Culinary Artist

Leaving a successful career to pursue your dream requires a lot of courage and unshakable self belief. Jenny Dorsey did exactly that. She walked away from a career in management consulting and the Columbia Business School to do what she was most passionate about — cooking.

Pursuing Her Dream

Deviating from the traditional and predetermined track her parents and peers expected and venturing into a totally unknown territory of culinary arts was a huge, life-altering transition for Jenny.

She says, “Going back to culinary school and being surrounded by people with completely different backgrounds than me made me realize what I had known and deemed as ‘the only option’ was a cage, a mirage made from stories of unhappy people who lived through their LinkedIn profile but not in their real lives.”

She didn’t want to end up like that. Therefore, she decided this was her chance to leap out of her comfort zone, take the plunge, and follow her dream.

Persevering Through Difficulties

Talking about her struggles, Jenny states, “It’s required a lot of effort to keep going, especially when things were hard and I wasn’t making any money and my peers were quietly laughing at me behind closed doors.”

Despite things not looking bright initially, Jenny persevered through. She knew she was on the right path and will soon be successful.

Sweet Success

Today, she is providing culinary consulting to an impressive list of clients as well as creating and launching new restaurant concepts among many other projects she’s juggling. She says happily, “Looking back, I am so proud of my decision and where I am now.”

Jenny had always made choices that feel authentic and right to her. “I feel peace in my choices; they are exclusively mine, not anyone else’s ideas,” says Jenny.
